Assignments may be conducted on a stand-alone project basis, with fixed costs and agreed deliverables and milestones, or as part of an ongoing retainer-based contract.

 

The PIC ICT Consultant, comparable to a Programmer in other companies, is required to work directly with clients onsite or remotely as part of a development team. The position requires travel to client and partner sites in South Africa and the EMEA Region.

 

PIC Solutions provides software support to clients in South Africa and the EMEA region from offices based in Cape Town, Dubai and Johannesburg.

Systems Planning

  • Understand and participate in the business vision, strategy and objectives of the clients

  • Translate the above into business/systems requirements

  • Refine the business plan into systems requirements, technical and resource strategy

  • Agree prioritisation with clients

  • Keep clients and staff informed re systems plan and status (documented where necessary)

  • Influence to overall ICT strategy

  • Communication of the systems plan to all staff

Development and Implementation of New Systems

  • Ensure that all development is within the agreed plan

  • Agree project plans with key clients

  • Effective allocation of resources

  • Monitoring resource utilisation against plans, report and re-plan

  • Ensure that all interfaces and interdependencies are managed according to the technical strategy

  • Contribution to the client group re implementation of systems that occur smoothly with necessary

  • Attention given to the 'softer' issues of training, human impact

  • Conduct ‘walk-throughs’ of all systems to ensure technical compliance

  • Keep abreast of latest technology

Maintenance, Enhancements and Support of Existing Systems

  • Ensure that requests for maintenance and enhancements are managed in line with business priorities and resources availability

  • Provide clients with an acceptable level of support

Client Communication

  • Conduct regular meetings with client/management/steering committee

  • Liaison with clients

  • Communication to both clients and staff of plans, progress and priorities

  • Liaison with and influence of client sponsor

  • Preparation of client environment for new systems

  • Act as the primary communication channel between client and PIC

Management of People

  • Day to day management

  • Communication re systems plans and progress

Experience

  • At least 10 years of ICT experience, the last 2 in a team leader or project manger capacity, preferably in the credit systems environment. Exposure to the retail and banking environments will be an advantage and experience with VisionPLUS and/or TRIAD would be preferred.

Education

  • Ideally, BSc/B.Com in Information Systems or Computer Science, plus a recognised diploma in Project Management.

Training

  • The initial training period would be for 4-6 months in the Cape Town office, working closely with Senior ICT Specialists and Department Managers.

  • After 3-4 months, the Senior ICT Specialist would be gradually given clients as secondary responsibility.

  • Training would continue on-the-job and would typically be completed after 6 months, when the Senior ICT Specialist would be expected to service a full complement of clients.
